What to do and expect during Raya Haji?
Hari Raya Haji is a Muslim celebration to commemorate the prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail – a sign of Muslims' submission to God. As Ibrahim was about to complete the sacrifice, God intervened and provided a sheep for sacrifice instead.
Generally, the day of celebration begins with the local Muslim rising early in the morning and going to pray at the nearby mosque. Goats and sheep may be sacrificed on this day. Some of the meat or a financial sum equivalent to that amount will be donated to the poor so they may celebrate too.
